How it works

For each part you tick, we multiply your kitchen's square footage by a low, typical and high price per square foot for your remodel level (appliances are priced per kitchen). A base line covers labor, prep, paint and electrical. Then we apply your regional multiplier.

Worked example

A 150 sq ft mid-range kitchen with cabinets, countertops, appliances, flooring and lighting (no layout change), national average:

  • Labor & prep: 150 × $22 = $3,300
  • Cabinets: 150 × $130 = $19,500
  • Countertops: 150 × $45 = $6,750
  • Appliances: $8,000 · Flooring: $1,950 · Lighting: $1,350
  • Typical ≈ $40,850 (range about $27,500 – $58,050)

Where the money goes

Cabinets are usually the biggest line — often a third of the budget. Refacing or painting existing cabinets is the classic way to save.
