How our cost calculators work
Each calculator multiplies your project size by typical low, typical and high prices for each part of the job, then adjusts for your region of the US. You get a range, not a single number, plus an itemized breakdown so you can see where the money goes.
Why a range?
Two contractors can quote the same job thousands of dollars apart. Materials, access, local labor rates and the condition of your home all matter. The typical figure is a sensible planning number; budget toward the high end if your home is older or you want premium finishes.
Before you hire
- Get at least three written quotes.
- Ask what is included — permits, demolition, haul-away and cleanup.
- Keep a 10–20% contingency for surprises behind walls.
Ballpark estimates only. Real quotes vary with your home, location and materials.
