How it works
Board feet = thickness (in) × width (in) × length (ft) ÷ 12, times the number of boards. Cost = board feet × price per board foot.
Worked example
Ten boards 2 in thick, 6 in wide and 8 ft long: 2 × 6 × 8 ÷ 12 = 8 board feet each, so 80 board feet. At $4 per board foot that's about $320 (estimate — prices vary by location).
