How it works
Studs on spacing = (wall length in inches ÷ spacing), rounded down, + 1. Add 2 studs per corner and 4 per door or window, then add waste. Plates = wall length × 3 (one bottom plate, doubled top plate).
Worked example
A 20 ft wall at 16 in spacing: 240 ÷ 16 + 1 = 16 studs. Two corners (4) and two openings (8) add 12, so 28 × 1.1 waste = 31 studs, plus 60 ft of plate.
