Lay sod the day it arrives and water it right away. For seed, keep the top inch of soil damp until it sprouts.
How it works
Sod: lawn area plus waste, ÷ 10 sq ft per roll and ÷ 450 sq ft per pallet. Seed: pounds = area ÷ 1,000 × seeding rate. Rates for a new lawn: bluegrass 3 lb, tall fescue 8 lb, perennial rye 7 lb, Bermuda 2 lb, zoysia 2 lb per 1,000 sq ft.
Worked example
A 50 × 30 ft lawn (1,500 sq ft):
- Sod: 1,500 + 10% = 1,650 sq ft → 165 rolls, 4 pallets
- Tall fescue seed: 1.5 × 8 = 12 lb
