Scaled recipe
24 → 48 servings · ×2
- 4 ½ cups flour
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 cups butter
- 1 ½ cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 4 cups chocolate chips
Eggs don't halve nicely — whisk one, then use half by weight (about 25 g).
How it works
- Scale factor = servings you want ÷ original servings
- Every amount is multiplied by that factor
- Volumes are tidied into the easiest measure: 3 tsp = 1 tbsp, 16 tbsp = 1 cup (so 48 tsp = 1 cup)
- Amounts are rounded to the nearest ⅛ so you can actually measure them
Worked example
A cookie recipe makes 24 and you want 48, so the factor is ×2. "¾ cup sugar" becomes 1 ½ cups, and "1 tsp salt" becomes 2 tsp. Scaling down to 6 cookies (×¼), "1 cup butter" becomes ¼ cup and "1 tsp baking soda" becomes ¼ tsp.
