How it works

Work out the area of your shape, multiply by depth in feet, then divide by 27 (there are 27 cubic feet in a cubic yard).

  • Rectangle: length × width
  • Circle: π × diameter² ÷ 4
  • Triangle: base × height ÷ 2

Cubic meters = cubic feet ÷ 35.315.

Worked example

A 10 × 10 ft area filled 3 inches deep: 100 sq ft × 0.25 ft = 25 cubic feet, which is 0.93 cubic yards (0.71 m³). With 10% extra, order about 1.02 cubic yards.
