This is for a single-width wall. Subtract doors and windows from the length × height before you order.
How it works
Bricks per sq ft = 144 ÷ ((brick length + joint) × (brick height + joint)). Bricks = wall area × bricks per sq ft, plus waste. One 80 lb bag of mortar mix lays about 35 bricks.
Worked example
A 20 × 8 ft wall with modular bricks (7⅝ × 2¼ in) and ⅜ in joints:
- 144 ÷ (8 × 2.625) = 6.86 bricks per sq ft
- 160 sq ft × 6.86 = 1,097, plus 10% = 1,207 bricks
- 1,207 ÷ 35 = 35 bags of mortar
