Knowing your exact gallons is the key to dosing chemicals right — keep this number handy.
How it works
Average depth = (shallow + deep) ÷ 2.
- Rectangle: length × width × average depth × 7.48
- Round: π × radius² × average depth × 7.48
- Oval: length × width × average depth × 5.9
- Kidney: 0.45 × (wide width + narrow width) × length × average depth × 7.48
Liters = gallons × 3.785.
Worked example
A 32 × 16 ft rectangle, 3.5 ft shallow and 8 ft deep: average depth 5.75 ft, so 32 × 16 × 5.75 × 7.48 = 22,021 gallons (about 83,359 liters).
