The math behind a 10x10 bed
A 10x10 bed is 100 square feet. At 3 inches deep (a quarter of a foot), that's 25 cubic feet of mulch. There are 27 cubic feet in a cubic yard, so you need a little under one cubic yard. We add about 10% to cover settling and uneven ground.
Bags or bulk?

Pull mulch back a hand's width from tree trunks and shrub stems so bark can breathe. Water the bed before and after spreading to help it settle. Dump small piles around the bed first, then rake them out. It's much faster than spreading one big pile.
