How it works
Each step sits on the ones below, so volume = width × run × rise × n(n + 1) ÷ 2. A top platform adds width × platform depth × full height. Add waste, then convert to cubic yards and bags (80 lb ≈ 0.6 cu ft, 60 lb ≈ 0.45 cu ft).
Worked example
Three steps, 7 in rise, 11 in run, 48 in wide: 4 × 0.917 × 0.583 × 6 = 12.8 cu ft. With 10% waste that's 14.1 cu ft = 0.52 cubic yards, or 24 bags of 80 lb (32 of 60 lb).
